Maine Do-Not-Call List
State DNC registry requirements for Maine
You must scrub against BOTH the federal National DNC Registry AND the Maine state DNC list before making calls in this state. Scrubbing only the federal list is not sufficient.
Maine Do Not Call Registry
Covers
Maine established a Do Not Call registry under ME Title 10, Chapter 225 (Telephone Solicitation). The statute allows the PUC to designate the federal FTC registry as the Maine registry. Telemarketers must register with the state and maintain a Do Not Call list. The Telemarketing and Telephone Solicitation Act governs operations. Penalties: civil penalties up to $5,000 per violation; willful/knowing violations are a Class D crime with fines up to $10,000 and/or imprisonment up to 1 year. Private lawsuits may recover up to $5,000 per violation plus attorney fees. Maine requires telemarketer registration with a surety bond. Contact the Maine PUC at 1-800-332-8529 for telemarketer registration details.
Federal National DNC Registry (Always Required)
You must scrub the federal list regardless of whether Maine has its own list. There is no opt-out from federal DNC compliance.
